is a viral disease transmitted to humans by infected mosquitoes carrying chikungunya virus. Majorly it causes fever and severe joint pain
that can persist for years. Aedes aegypti mosquito (also called yellow fever mosquito) is the primary transmission agent for Chikungunya Virus (CHIKV). This is usually found in tropics and hence the reason why Chikungunya is predominantly seen in Asian countries. Anyone can get infected with Chikungunya virus. The virus infection can be seen in new born to old people. It is an RNA virus that belongs to the alphavirus genus of the family togaviridae. The name “chikungunya” derives from a word in the Kimakonde language, meaning “to become contorted”, and describes the stooped appearance of sufferers with joint pain (arthralgia).
CHIKVNIL'S MECHANISM OF ACTION
Boswellia serrata has been used in traditional medicine for centuries to treat inflammatory diseases . The pharmacological effect has been mainly attributed to its major constituent AKBA and has been used as an antiarthritis drug in traditional Indian ayurvedic medicine. Clinical trials have indicated improvement of chronic symptoms with this treatment . Antiviral activity has also been documented for methanolic extracts of Boswellia that have been described to inhibit HCV protease activity in vitro. It has been described to affect the eicosanoid biosynthetic pathway, thereby producing its anti-inflammatory effects.
Curcumin has been used for centuries in Asia to treat various disorders. It has been described to possess antiviral ,antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antineoplastic activities in vitro and in vivo . It is a natural polyphenol isolated from turmeric (Curcuma longa). Curcumin's antiviral action is mainly due to its inhibiting action on virus entry into cells like blocking of hepatitis C virus (HCV) entry into hepatocytes by curcumin has been described in studies.
Curcumin inhibits chikungunya virus majorly by following mechanisms -
- It inhibits virus replication
- Reduces virus infectivity
- Blocks binding of virus to cell surface.
Tinospora cordifolia extracts show excellent immunomodulatory activity. It exhibits increase in the WBC counts & bone marrow cells significantly indicating stimulatory effect on haemopoetic system.
Zingiber officinale another highly effective remedy to treat the pain and health troubles resulting due to chikungunya virus. It provides you analgesics effect that helps you treat the condition without any side effects. P.nigrum extract containing not less than 95% piperine. Piperine is a natural bioavailability enhancer and is proven to improve the uptake and utilization of natural active ingredient especially Curcumin and Boswellia .
