healthcare

Known to be often triggered by the airborne carriers of a wide range of infections, viral fever is the result of the infection that we tend to catch from the air that we breathe. This may also be caused by some waterborne viruses, as well as sometimes by coming in personal contact with someone already suffering from viral. Apart from an increase in the body temperature, a viral infection is usually also accompanied by weakness and fatigue, burning sensation in the eyes, muscle ache, headache, skin rashes, sore throat, nasal blockage, chest congestion, vomiting and diarrhoea etc. Common cold, however, remains one of the most common and early symptoms of suffering from a viral infection.

How to relieve viral fever naturally?

Viral infection usually results from an immunity gone low. That is why it is normally the kids and the elderly who come under its attack. However, nowadays, adults are also just as likely to be affected by its symptoms.

Lasting usually one to two weeks, the viral fever has of late become one of the most common seasonal problems. It usually comes and goes on its own, and no serious medical care is required for relief from viral fever. It is best advised to stick to a basic, healthy, home-made diet, and also to consume healthy, natural fluids. Apart from that, there are various natural remedies that are available which have proved practically helpful in getting an early relief from the symptoms of a viral fever. Readily available and free from any side effects, these natural remedies have been extremely effective in combating the various complications arising out of viral fever.

Giloy

Tinospora Cordifolia, which is also known as Giloy or Guduchi, has been known to be extremely effective in case of fever, infections and various chronic complications associated with these. The word Giloy itself stands for ‘amrit’, or what we call the ‘elixir or life’. No wonder why it has been one of the most valued herbs as recognized by the system of Ayurveda.

The Giloy leaves have various therapeutic properties, such as being antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, detoxifier, rejuvenative, analgesic, anti-stress, anti-cancer etc. However, it has best been known for its immune-modulatory functions. Being both preventive as well as curative in nature, it works as a natural means to boost our immune system. Its regular consumption leads to a significant increase in the WBC count, which eventually results in improved resistance to a variety of disease-carrying agents. Simply consuming about 1-2 grams of this herb twice a day is sufficient. Apart from treating chronic fever, giloy also reduces the symptoms of stress and anxiety, moderates premature signs of ageing and exhibits some incredible gastrointestinal protective properties.

Rice Starch

Rice starch happens to be another great natural remedy for viral. This is natural, nourishing and helps boost our immune system. Taking approximately half a cup of the same on an empty stomach in the morning supports respite from the viral fever.

Tulsi (Holy Basil)

People have since long been taking Tulsi leaves in order to find relief from the symptoms of viral. A nice, warm herbal decoction made using some 5 -10 fresh leaves of tulsi or Holy Basil, offers a variety of benefits, owing to its anti-bacterial, anti-biotic and germicidal properties. You may add half to one spoonful of clove powder while the leaves are boiling.

Coriander Seeds

Boiling a tablespoon of coriander seeds in about one glass of water, straining it and allowing it to cool gives us what is known as a healing fever - solution. Also known as coriander tea, it contains a variety of antibiotics, vitamins as well as phytonutrients which go a long way in giving our immune system a good boost.

Fenugreek

Methi dana or Fenugreek water is another drink which helps in reducing the fever and other symptoms associated with the viral fever. Simply soak about one tablespoon of the fenugreek seeds overnight in half a cup of water. Strain the seeds in the morning and the leftover solution is ready for consumption. For better taste and results, we may also add some lemon juice or honey to it.

Garlic

Garlic or Lahsun is another great herbal therapy for viral infection. You may try taking the same as it is in its crushed form, or add it sliced or pounded to warm, freshly prepared soups. Garlic is loaded with natural properties of being anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral.

Ginger

The anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties of Ginger that help fight cold, cough and fever are long known to us. Ginger therefore is relieving in the viral fever when taken in the form of freshly prepared tea, decoction or grated and juiced as a potion with some honey mixed into it.

Khichadi

Warm, soothing home-made food such as khichdi is also highly effective during those days. This can be combined with supportive spices and herbs like mint, black pepper, ajwain (carom seeds), ginger etc.

Sanat Uplat

Sanat recommends Cap. Uplat as effective and supportive therapy to relieve viral fever to be taken in the dosage of two capsules once (stat) for a period of 5 to 10 (in case the platelet count is above 50,000). This is mainly because this particular medicine contains Giloy or Tinospora cordifolia extracts as one of its main ingredients. Various studies have shown T. cordifolia to hold natural immunomodulatory activity, which furthermore exhibits increase in the WBC counts and bone marrow cells. This considerably indicates stimulatory effect on entire haemopoetic system.
